Philyra Kokinos, an uncommon name for an equally uncommon person. Born in a remnant where people possessing special powers are far and few, with hair that marked her difference at birth. Philyra has a childhood much different from the other children she grew up with. She would have been outcast from birth if it weren’t for the respect her mother commanded as the village healer. She was lucky that her mother was so important to the village or she would have never lived to see her first birthday, her father on the other hand had left them soon after her birth.
As Philyra grew up she was quickly immersed in the healing traditions passed from parent to child. She was by her mother's side as her mother aided the sick and tended to the injured. She was taught to use a bow in order to protect herself when she hunted for herbs. While the other children learned to farm or hunt or take care of a household, she learned to grind herbs and make medicine. She also learned how to sing from her mother, to help them whittle away the hours they spent at their work. The other adults made sure to keep there children far away from the witch that had been born to their village, hoping that her mother would raise her properly into a healer even as they feared her for the differences she had.
It was over the course of her training that her powers took shape. When she made medicines, they seemed to heal the sick faster then they normally should. The wind that blew through the village seemed to follow her mood, blowing strongly when she was angry and calmly when she was happy. The villagers seemed to pay it no mind, thinking it was the skill of her mother that healed them quickly, and the whims of the gods that predicted the strange weather they had. They ignored the child they knew was different, pretending she wasn’t there.
As they years went on and she grew up, rumors of nightmares made flesh slowly trickled into her village. At first they were ignored, but as more rumors spread and stories of villages being destroyed reached them the villagers began to panic. She was only 16 when the fear of destruction finally reached a boiling point and the villagers began blaming her as the cause for all this. As the days dragged on, their anger kept growing with their fear, until they finally decided to banish her from the village. Philyra’s mother tried to calm the village, but even she couldn’t change the result of irrational fear.
In the beginnings of spring, Philyra was told to never return to the village. A decision that would consequently save her life from among the doomed village she would leave behind. The very next week, a great storm came to the village. The very tales of the nightmares told of the sky blackening before they would strike. Philyra had hidden herself in the forest around the village that she knew so well and she sneaked back into the village when the darkness came. She was worried for her mother’s safety. The sight she would see would scar her for years as she watched her mother’s life extinguished in a bright flash of lightning created by a nightmare hidden in the storm. She fled the village, assuming the same fate would befall the other villagers and came across a door in the woods she hadn’t noticed before. When she opened it, a new world was spread out before her, and she never saw her world again.
The new world she arrived in was filled with people whose language she didn't understand. Several times she almost went crazy trying to get the people she met to understand what she was saying. Eventually she was enrolled in a small school in a town she found. She spent the next 2 years doing her best to learn the language of this new world, along with how to read and write, though both proved even more difficult to her since she had never learned how to read or write in her native language. After she felt confident with understanding her new language, she ventured off to explore this strange new world that was so much different then her own.
Personality
Philyra is an energetic girl that loves talking in her new language. She tries her best to practice it whenever she gets the chance too, and makes mistakes all the time. She is usually good at pronunciation in her new-found language, however when she is agitated or distracted she partially reverts back to her traditional tongue in the way she pronounces things. Turning them into dem and should into zould among other things. She doesn't mind asking other people what new words mean. She is usually a little nervous when meeting new people and can be a bit clumsy in front of strangers.
Goals
Philyra's only real goal is to make friends as she explores the many remnants she finds. In her world she was feared by many because of superstition. However, after arriving in a new world and discovering no one was afraid of her, she made it her job to find friends for herself, even though she had no clue how to do so.
